I’ve always loved the city of Glasgow. It’s vibrant with a hint of charm. Touted as the fourth biggest city in Europe besides Paris, Berlin and London, Glasgow is fast becoming a dynamic city in UK renowned for its colorful characters and booming modernization.
However, an uncalled for attack by a popular travel handbook published in the UK and the US caused Glasgow tourism chiefs to retaliate. The guide book purportedly pointed out Glasgow’s many social problems including burgeoning slums and drug as well as alcohol abuse problems.
To be fair, Glasgow has come a long way than being just a mere UK city overshadowed by London. Today, it is a modernized cosmopolitan city visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists each year. I have read personal accounts from tourists saying just how full of personality Glasgow is, so I was pretty miffed when I heard of them being attacked unfairly in the guide book. Next time you want to plan a holiday in the UK, give Glasgow a chance and let them prove just how enjoyable a vacation can be in Glasgow!
